TCC Mission Statement & Goals

Texas Conference of Churches:

Our Vision, Our Call, Our Work

Texas Conference of Churches Guiding Vision Statement:

“The Texas Conference of Churches is a state wide ecumenical organization of Christian Churches that seeks to reflect the unity we are called to in Christ while respecting the diversity of our various Christian traditions."

The Call of Texas Conference of Churches is:

         1.   To two primary tasks: Education and Advocacy. We accomplish these tasks by engaging in dialogue, common service, and prayer for Christian unity.
         2.   To seek to heal divisions that exist in our communities and in our world by promoting inter-Christian and inter-faith dialogue.
         3.   To seek common purpose in the care of society and creation.
         4.   To seek opportunities for growth in understanding one other and our particular religious traditions.

Our Work:

  1. Recognizing the great wealth of resources available within our various traditions, Texas Conference of Churches will seek to coordinate resources and make them available as appropriate.
  2. The Texas Conference of Churches can identify common interests and concerns within the various Christian traditions represented and serve as a clearing house for these things.  These include but are not limited to areas such as immigration, economic justice, the rights of children, poverty, war and peace, the Middle East, multi-cultural issues, health care, homelessness, victims of sexual abuse, housing, hunger, concerns for returning veterans, rural ministry, environmental issues, the Social Creed for the 21st century, and interfaith relations.
  3. Recognizing the reality of Texas geography, Texas Conference of Churches will encourage a regional approach to its educational ministry, so that regional events could take place under the auspices of Texas Conference of Churches in several places around the State.
  4. Recognizing that ecumenical ministry is not strictly the work of Texas Conference of Churches, we encourage partnership and cooperative planning with other ecumenical organizations and agencies throughout the state and nation.
  5. We encourage the development and use of internet and web resources as well as an exploration of technologies such as video conferencing for the educational ministry of Texas Conference of Churches.
  6. We seek to provide, at least annually, an opportunity for judicatory (governing body) leaders (including retired church leaders)  to come together for education, dialogue, & fellowship recognizing the importance of persons in such leadership positions in getting to know each other as well as strengthening the objectives of Texas Conference of Churches.
  7. Texas Conference of Churches may create committees, task groups, or commissions as needed to carry out its work of education and advocacy.
  8. Texas Conference of Churches may partner with other existing organizations especially in the area of legislative advocacy and environmental issues.
  9. Texas Conference of Churches may oversee and coordinate the work of organizations created by grant funds as required by those grants.
  10. Texas Conference of Churches may explore opportunities for dialogue with persons of other faiths including, but not limited to Jews and Muslims.

Our Structure:

  1. See revised constitution and by-laws.

Fiscal Responsibility:

1.      Funding for Texas Conference of Churches comes from member judicatories (governing bodies), partner organizations, grants, particular congregations, and individuals.
