DISASTER RECOVERY PROGRAM HISTORY:
TCC formed its Disaster Recovery Program in November 2005. We concentrate on long-term recovery working with communities throughout Texas.
The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded our first Americorps*VISTA grant June 11, 2006 and our second grant March 1, 2008. We are placing twenty Americorps*VISTA members and a VISTA Leader around the state responding the long-term recovery needs of Hurricanes Rita, Katrina, and state-wide disaster survivors.
Bonnie Mallott is the Project Supervisor for the VISTA members. You can find out more about them on this website at TCC Disaster Recovery VISTA Members and Organizations. We have active members or are recruiting at the following locations:
For questions concerning this project, being a VISTA member, or volunteering to assist the effort, call the Texas Conference of Churches, 512 451 0991. To learn how to become a VISTA on this project, go to Recruiting VISTA Members to Disaster Recovery in Texas.
Your donations to TCC’s Disaster Recovery Program will be allocated to community disaster recovery committees who are helping disaster survivors recover. No more than 10% will be used for administrative expense at TCC. To donate to this vital ministry, please send checks to the Texas Conference of Churches with "disaster recovery" written in the memo section or click here to go to our donations page. General donations will be allocated according to most-pressing needs. If you wish to designate a specific area, please indicate one or more of the locations where we are working.
