Disaster Recovery Program

TCC formed its Disaster Recovery Program in November 2005. We concentrate on long-term recovery working with communities throughout Texas.Disaster_Recovery_group.jpg

The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded our first Americorps*VISTA grant June 11, 2006. We are placing twenty Americorps*VISTA members and a VISTA Leader around the state responding the long-term recovery needs of Hurricanes Dolly, Ike, and other disaster survivors. VISTA stands for Volunteers in Service to America, and each Member provides a year of national service to their site.

Since the inception of this program, our VISTA Members have helped their community organizations collect $5,366,000 worth of resources. This includes the value of the time spent by 2,898 community volunteers that the VISTA Members helped recruit, manage or otherwise assist.

Bonnie Mallott is the Project Supervisor for the VISTA members. You can find out more about them on this website at TCC Disaster Recovery VISTA Members and Organizations. We have active members or are recruiting at the following locations:

  • Austin
  • Bell County
  • Brazoria County (Hurricane Ike)
  • Burnet/Llano Counties
  • Cameron, Willacy and Hidalgo Counties (Hurricane Dolly)
  • El Paso
  • Galveston (Hurricane Ike)
  • Houston (Hurricane Ike)
  • Liberty County (Hurricane Ike)
