The purpose of the Commission on Christian Unity & Interfaith Relations is to nurture koinonia among Texas Conference of Churches member churches, and the wider Christian community through shared worship, dialogue, and ministry with one another, in order to bring about the healing of divisions among the churches, and to foster interreligious understanding and cooperation. This Commission is charged with a) formulating a Christian Unity agenda on current ecumenical and interreligious issues, to be recommended to the Board of Directors for approval, and b) initiating annual Faith & Order Conferences, to engage churches at judicatory and local levels of church life.
Accountability
The Commission on Christian Unity & Interfaith Relations is accountable to the Board of Directors.
Goals and Objectives
- The Commission on Christian Unity & Interfaith Relations, in consultation with the Executive Director, and the Church Relations Committee of the Board of Directors will establish guidelines for selecting and evaluating Christian unity and interreligious priorities, issues, partnerships and events of the Texas Conference of Churches.
- The Commission will make recommendations to the Executive Director about the creation of task forces, subcommittees, etc. to address unity & relationship concerns.
- The Commission will establish criteria for recruiting people to serve on task forces and subcommittees.
- Commission members will report regularly on the work of the Commission to appropriate Judicatory staff, committees and agencies.
- Commission members will inform staff of available Judicatory funding for Christian Unity & Interfaith Relations concerns.
